Pieve di San Giovanni Battista (Rosia)

Pieve di San Giovanni a Rosia

You can celebrate your wedding in the Pieve di San Giovanni Battista in Rosia, near Siena.

Records of this church already date back to the 11th century and we also know that it underwent extensive renovations during the 14th century. It was one of the most important religious centres in medieval Sienese life. The most ancient element is the bell tower, with the exception of the crowning battlements: in four superimposed rows, one-, two-, three- and four-light mullioned windows alternate in a stone facing, punctuated by small hanging arches.

The building of the Pieve di San Giovanni Battista in Rosia, has an elegant façade in limestone blocks, the portal is accessed by three steps, surmounted by a round arch and three single-lancet windows. It has a rectangular layout with three naves. Inside, the 14th-century parallelepiped-shaped baptismal font depicts the Baptism of Christ between five angels.

Also worthy of note is the 15th-century Madonna Enthroned with Child and Saints Sebastian and Anthony Abbot, by Guidoccio Cozzarelli.
